Health and Safety Services
Our local chapter provides various education courses, including CPR and First Aid, that can save lives and create safer communities. The courses are divided into two main categories: Community Training and Workplace Training. Most community courses are taught at the chapter house classroom. Workplace programs can be taught onsite at the business location or at the chapter.

Community Training Programs:
Community CPR, First Aid and Safety: Complete course that combines CPR and First Aid training to teach participants how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants, children, and adults. First Aid includes controlling external bleeding, burns, injuries to muscle/bones/joints, and sudden illnesses, such as diabetic emergencies, severe allergic reactions, seizures and stroke recognition. First Aid also includes heat and cold related emergencies and is valid for 3 years.
Adult CPR: Hands-on skills training for adult CPR that prepares participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies.
Adult CPR/AED: Hands-on skills training for adult CPR and AED that prepares participants for responding effectively to breathing and cardiac emergencies.
First Aid Basics: This half-day course provides instruction in controlling external bleeding, burns, injuries to muscle/bones/joints, and sudden illnesses, such as diabetic emergencies, severe allergic reactions, seizures and stroke recognition. First Aid also includes heat and cold related emergencies and is valid for 3 years.
Infant and Child CPR: Hands-on skills training for infant and child CPR that prepares participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children up to 8 yrs of age.
Babysitters Training: A course that gives 11 to 15 year-olds the knowledge, skills, and confidence to care for infants and school-age children. THREE certifications are included in this one day course: Child/Infant CPR, standard First Aid, and Babysitters Certification.
Basic Aid Training (BAT): Teaches children ages 8 to 12 emergency response skills, including rescue breathing.
First Aid for Children Today (FACT): Course for kids ages 5 to 8 that promotes health and injury prevention activities.
Family Care Giving Modules: One hour presentations designed to help people who care for others by teaching them to build skills, reduce stress, understand legal, financial and medical issues, and balance their responsibilities. Topics include: Home Safety, General Care Giving Skills, Positioning and Helping Your Loved One Move, Assisting with Personal Care, Healthy Eating, Caring for the Caregiver, Legal and Financial Issues, Caring for a Loved One with Alzheimer’s Disease or Dementia, and Caring for a Loved One with HIV/AIDS.
Other courses available upon request are Responding to Emergencies, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Response, Oxygen Administration, Preventing Disease Transmission, and AED.
Learn-to-Swim and LIFEGUARDING courses available through 3rd Party Providers: Lifeguard Training, Head Lifeguard Training, GuardStart-Lifeguarding Tomorrow, Longfellows WHALE Tales Swimming and Diving, Community Water Safety, Water Safety Instructor, and Learn-to-Swim.
Workplace Training Programs:
CPR-Adult, Standard First Aid with AED: The most comprehensive training course, this day-long session teaches First Aid, Adult CPR and AED skills.
AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
First Aid: First Aid includes controlling external bleeding, burns, injuries to muscle/bones/joints, and sudden illnesses, such as diabetic emergencies, severe allergic reactions, seizures and stroke recognition. First Aid also includes heat and cold related emergencies and is valid for 3 years.
Adult CPR/AED: Hands-on skills training for adult CPR and AED prepares participants to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies.
Adult CPR: For employees who need Adult CPR training only, this hands-on skills training includes information on the role of AEDs in emergency cardiac care.
Injury Control Modules: Focusing on common causes of worksite injuries and key health risks, these one-hour awareness-level modules highlight risks and promote prevention. Topics include: Ergonomics…Slips, Trips, & Falls…Back Injury Prevention…Your Heart Matters…Workplace Violence Awareness…Managing Stress. (YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE AN AUTHORIZED INSTRUCTOR TO TEACH THESE MODULES)
Preventing Disease Transmission (Bloodborne Pathogens): Focuses on prevention of bloodborne diseases of primary concern to OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens standard, including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and HIV.
Oxygen Administration for the Lay Responder: This course teaches participants when and how to use Oxygen administration devices to help save lives.

For online registration of all Red Cross Training courses go to www.redcross.org . Once on the national web site:
1) Click the tab “Preparing and Getting Trained”
2) Click “Take a Class”
3) Enter your Zip Code; click “Go”
4) Select the course you are searching for and the date range to find the class to meet your needs. Click “Find Courses”. It may take a few seconds to load the information.
A page should appear with classes at the bottom. You may either scroll directly to the bottom to find a class you’d like and register or narrow/broaden your choices by filling in some of the search fields located above the classes. For example: it automatically defaults to a 25 mile search radius of the zip code you entered but if you’d like to widen that simply click on the drop down box marked “Radius (miles)”. Once you have chosen your preferences click “Search Learning Catalogue”.
Scroll down for class choices. You may click on any underlined section for more information. Ex: “Map”: A map will appear and you may click on the red marker on the map to see the location of the class.
Once you find a course that fits your schedule click “Register”.
