Red Cross Fundraising

The American Red Cross is a non-profit organization that relies on your generous contributions to provide vital and life-saving services. The Piedmont Carolina Chapter derives funding from numerous sources. This list includes contributions, services revenue, funding from the United Way, Corporate Sponsorships, and fundraising events.

The Piedmont Carolina Chapter sponsored events throughout the year. In addition, we have an annual Heroes and Community Partner Program, and use independent, direct mail campaigns for local donations.

Golf Tournaments
The Chapter sponsors two golf tournaments each year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Participants receive an 18-hole round of golf, a tournament gift, refreshments, and a chance to win a door prize. Prizes are given to the top two teams, winners of Closest to the Pin and Longest Drive Contests, and the winner of the half-n-half drawing. The Spring Tournament is held the 1st Thursday in May at a course in Alamance County. The Fall Tournament is held in September at Caswell Pines Golf Course. Businesses can participate by entering a team, sponsoring a hole or cart, or by donating items to be given as door prizes.

Taste of Alamance
Our most talked about event, Taste of Alamance provides an opportunity to sample the unique food and beverage offerings from 30 different local restaurants and vendors. This one has quickly become our most popular event of the year, and tickets are always limited. The event is held each year in April, and is a great way to kick off the spring season.

Cow Patty Bingo
Cow Patty Bingo is a hilarious fundraising event held on a Saturday at the Burlington Royals Stadium during a home game. The event, usually held in August, includes a Bingo Raffle that gives one lucky person a $1,000 grand prize. Participants do not need to be present to win, but those who are can enjoy their stay in the stadium by cheering on the Royals. Raffle Tickets are $10 each.

BUNCO
Approximately three times per year, we host Ladies BUNCO Night at a local facility. BUNCO is a lively and fast-paced dice game played with a partner in rotating tables of four. Throughout the evening, participants enjoy snacks, drinks, and door prizes. The funds raised are used to benefit the victims of local disasters.

Dracula’s Black and Red
In 2009, the Chapter hosted its first ever Halloween cocktail party and silent auction to benefit local disaster relief. Music, dancing, prizes, and a silent auction highlighted the three hour event. Plans for 2010 are already underway. This year’s event is scheduled for October 16. If you’d like more information or would like to reserve a ticket, call our chapter for details. The cost is $25 per person.

HERO Campaign
Heroes for the American Red Cross is a grassroots campaign in which local businesses, school groups, church groups, civic clubs, and individual donors pledge to raise $1,000, through any legal means, for the local Red Cross Chapter. The HERO Campaign is held each year during the months of March, April, and May.

Direct Mail Campaigns
The chapter independently mails donation letters to annual and potential financial contributors at certain times each year. These mailing generally go out quarterly, and help the chapter bring in individual donations that help support the chapter our mission within the local community.
